Community Cloud Study

Dear Colleagues,
 
Thank you for participating in this Community Cloud study! 
 
This call for collaboration supports the research phase of the Cloud Connect Initiative, which seeks to identify the challenges you, your institutions, researchers, and administrators face, and develop a set of community-sourced requirements for a Cloud Connect environment. 
 
Your stories and ideas will help us capture current and future needs, and identify opportunities to both leverage the community’s investment in regional and national infrastructure and trusted identity, and build value and parity through shared features, tools, and resources. 

Tell us your story

Go to this survey and tell us the stories or ideas which you believe represent the best examples of your needs (or anticipated future needs) in a cloud-connected environment.  These stories should describe the types of challenges you face in conducting your research using cloud-connected services (commercial or private infrastructure) and can be brief.  Although our preliminary work focuses on bringing connectivity to the major Cloud providers (i.e., Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure), we will learn from your stories what else may need to be considered.

The stories may want to address several factors, such as:  Supporting researchers' needs, Gaining access to resources, Authorization to use them, provisioning and deprovisioning network connections, and more...

Some Guidance

Compose your stories offline, share them with your colleagues but think of these as illustrations of how you would like your experience using cloud-connect services to work. Less is more - distill the essence of your story into a few well-considered paragraphs if you can — no idea is off-limits and we want to read ideas even if not fully-formed. Don't confine yourself to thinking only about TODAY's needs but perhaps those which you envision in the next three to five years. When you write your story, write them from a particular point of view:

  • Yourself
  • Your Home Institution
  • The Researcher
  • The Service Provider
  • K12 institution
  • State and Local Government 
  • etc ....

Add as many stories as you think best describe the arc of the needs of your institution, project, or program. We will consider all of the stories submitted, but for purposes of this effort, please identify the top two which are most important.

  • Add the stories to the survey repository (as of January 31, we will begin to evaluate the submissions that we have received. The site will remain open for additional comments and we will evaluate comments as they are received). 
  • Identify the top two clearly by marking them accordingly 
  • We will assemble these stories into a consolidated document for community review and next steps.
