Governance Update - RAC (April '11)
The Research Advisory Council (RAC) met with David Lambert, who introduced Steve Wolff as the new Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. Steve will be engaging with the RAC and the broader research community to lay out the strategy for Internet2's investments to support science and research. The RAC then discussed how Steve's appointment related to its proposals for a Vice President for Research and a National Board of Researchers. This broadened into a general discussion with Steve of some preliminary ideas support of research in preparation for further discussions, starting at the upcoming Spring Member Meeting. John Kolb discussed the Research Wave Program subcommittee's status, and that the Researcher Forum will be used to solicit one page "statements of interest" during that meeting and shortly thereafter from the various researchers and research communities. Finally, Rob Vietzke shared some ideas relating to creating a "open science exchange" and a layer 2 service currently under discussion in the NTAC and AOAC.
