Internet2 Welcomes New Members of Executive Leadership Team
Internet2 is pleased to welcome two new members to its executive leadership team. Shelton Waggener has joined Internet2 as Senior Vice President, effective May 19, 2012, and John S. Morabito has joined Internet2 as Vice President and General Counsel.
Waggener will provide senior executive leadership for Internet2 NET+ Services after his current role as Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at the University California, Berkeley concludes at the end of the spring 2012 semester. As Senior Vice President, Waggener will lead Internet2 NET+, a set of advanced services above the network. Internet2 NET+ includes compute, storage, platform and software services, the integration of identity management and federation with key applications for the research and education community, deployment of collaboration infrastructure among members, including video, coordination and sharing tools, content management, and domain applications. He will also provide leadership for Internet2’s InCommon and middleware programs.
Morabito, former Deputy Associate Administrator in the Office of Policy Analysis and Development for the U.S Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), will provide senior executive leadership for external relations and legal matters. In his new role, Morabito will be responsible for developing and implementing external relations, in coordination with other higher education associations and interests, with the goal of maintaining Internet2 as a leader, trusted authority, and resource in the area of advanced Internet development. This responsibility will include cultivating support and providing high-speed Internet connectivity to community anchor institutions. As General Counsel, Morabito will lead Internet2 on a wide range of legal matters and provide counsel to the senior executive leadership team.
