Indiana University President Michael McRobbie Elected Chair of Internet2 Board of Trustees; New Advisory Groups to be Launched
Indiana University President Michael McRobbie has been elected as the sixth chair of the Internet2 Board of Trustees and will serve until July 2015. President McRobbie joined the board in 2009 and succeeds University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman, who served as chair for the last year and as a member of the board since 2003.
Internet2 also welcomes newly elected board members Eric D. Isaacs, director of Argonne National Laboratory, and Joe Freddoso, president and chief executive officer, MCNC, which is based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Internet2’s member-focused board provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for the organization and greater community. A list of the Internet2 board of trustees can be found online.
Effective as of the July Board meeting, the advising structure within Internet2 governance has undergone a significant change. Advisory Councils are transitioning to Program Advisory Groups (PAGs), which are advisory to the Internet2 Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and will focus on priority programs. Members will be appointed, not elected, in consultation with the GNC. Current council members will be offered seats on the newly formed PAGs for the remainder of their terms. Each group will be led by a member of the ELT. Initially, there will be six PAGs, with the expectation that new groups will launch as new priorities and programs are developed.
