The Technophobe & The Madman will combine music, video, text and interactivity in the first live distributed musical over Internet2 networks on February 20, 2001 beginning at 8:00 p.m. EST. Artists at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York and at NYU in New York City will use the networks to perform collaboratively. This work was commissioned by Harvestworks (http://www.harvestworks.org/) with funds from the New York State Council on the Arts.

High-performance networks will not only provide the environment for the distributed musical performance itself--collaborators also have used the same networks over a six-month period to develop and rehearse this large-scale multimedia piece. The performance will be viewed live by audiences in auditoriums at NYU and at RPI. Beginning February 22, an archived netcast version of the event will be available at: http://www.academy.rpi.edu/projects/
