Earlier this fall, we reported the completion of the migration of the Internet2 Network backbone from OpenFlow to MPLS that began in mid-2016. The next step in the ongoing maintenance of the Internet2 Network is to perform capacity augments to segments of the network. With the move to MPLS, the Internet2 team is refining their overall traffic management plan, using the ability of MPLS to convert the segments on the backbone from discrete, multiple 100G channels to using LAGs when 100G segments are added.
