Internet2 NET+ SIP Program Resources and Upcoming Events
As we wrap up two very successful SIP Program update webinars, I wanted to share the slides (pdf) and recording (adobe), which include the most current information about the general availability of the program, and a host of benefits shared by early adopters – including reduced complexity, freeing up IT resources for more strategic projects, and assuring business continuity. Total cost is also emerging as a noted benefit by early adopters. In fact, the SIP Program services were recently identified as the lowest Total Cost Offering (TCO) over all premise-based and hosted solutions in a case study and whitepaper on the drivers and myths of cloud communications written by analyst Brent Kelly of Constellation Research.
Charile McMahon, VP of IT and CTO of Tulane University may have said it best during the recent webinar: "If our ($1M annual) expected savings are average for adopters, then we as a consortium reduce higher education costs by at least $100M annually if we're successful." Creating new technologies that produce better yielding, and even transformational higher education operations is a core purpose of the Internet2 NET+ initiative, and the SIP Program is but one application that is already creating this impact.
Don’t miss the chance to learn more about the advantages of the program by hearing the experiences and expertise from a panel of four SIP Program early adopters at the 2013 Internet2 Annual Meeting and anyone attending the ACUTA Annual Conference, can take part ina hands-on workshop focused on configuring the services provided by Aastra and Level 3.
2013 Internet2 Annual Meeting, Arlington, VA – April 21-24, 2013 Jumping to the Cloud with the Internet2 NET+ SIP Program – Lessons Learned from Early Implementers April 23, 2013, 1:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.; Salon I/II/III
This session is a panel of four early implementers of the Internet2 NET+ SIP Program. Member representatives from Tulane University, Iowa State University, the University of Maryland Baltimore County and Texas A&M University will share their SIP Services implementation experiences. The panel will discuss reasons for deciding to move to cloud-based services, contractual requirements, the implementation process and possible future directions for the Internet2 NET+ SIP Program.
2013 ACUTA Annual Conference, San Diego, CA – April 14-17, 2013 Internet2 Net+ SIP in the Cloud Workshop April 14, 2013, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This workshop will provide “hands-on” access to the Hosted PBX and SIP Trunking services provided by Aastra and Level3, respectively. Participants will learn how easy it can be to configure new lines and instruments, add features, turn up SIP trunks and perform other daily operations. The inner workings of the SBC, gateways and other VoIP network appliances will also be showcased along with a discussion of ongoing development efforts that will make this the premier SIP cloud offering in the world.
