DYNES Project Update - Winter 2011

As mentioned in November, Internet2 is building a nationwide cyber-instrument to support research collaboration and scientists with data intensive networking needs in the campus environment.

Presentations were featured at SC11 showcasing the reach and capabilities of the instrument across the country, and efforts to peer the service with similar capabilities in South America and Europe through the NSF IRNC program. The SC11 presentation showcased US sites making successful connections to South American sites (connected to RNP, via AMPATH in Miami) and Europe (AutoBAHN, the GEANT project, as well as to CERN).  This presentation allowed SC11 attendees a first-hand view of how R&E networks are supporting data intensive science on a global scale and is a great example of the types of advanced Layer 2 services Internet2 and the US R&E community are leading across the globe with international partner networks.

More work on the phased implementation of these new capabilities amongst Groups A, B, and C mentioned in November will progress throughout the month and in 2012.  Stay tuned for more information and progress reports on the phased installation in the coming months.
