Last week, I mentioned some installation training that a number of Level3 and Internet2 engineers were participating in. This week, four Internet2 and IU Global Research NOC engineers are in Broomfield, CO at Level 3's headquarters taking a two day training course to learn how to manage the network using Ciena's Element Management System (OMEA). When completed, they'll understand the processes for upgrading the equipment, monitoring it, and provisioning wavelengths, to name a few. I've asked them if they'd be willing to write up a quick blog post about it, so there may be more coming...

We're getting pretty close to kicking off the first installations. A number of sites along the east coast are slated to begin next week. There's always a bit of scrambling at the last minute to get things readied, and this installation is no different. Obviously the first sites are going to be learning experiences for everyone, though we have an excellent plans in place and a great team readied to implement.
