Learning to install the Optical Network
This week, two of Internet2's engineers along with nine Level3 engineers are participating in an installation certification course in Linthicum, MD at Ciena's main headquarters. They'll be learning the ins and outs of installing and commissioning an OME 6500 system in the field. While the Internet2 engineers won't be directly participating in the installation, we wanted them to join the class so they get familiar with the chassis. So far, it's proven useful. I received an e-mail last night that they were able to get some time with the class gear and run some tests that to understand the node-to-node bandwidth limits over the inline management channel between OME chassis.
