Level 3's involvement in the Internet2 Upgrade
I'm very pleased to share the following news with you:
We're all excited about working with Level 3 on our next-generation infrastructure. As many of you know, we've been working closely with them for the past five years to provide services on the existing Internet2 Network. This extends the good work they do into the next generation of our network. Level 3 will be handling the installation of the equipment and many of the day to day monitoring and operational services. We've been working closely with the Level 3 team and Ciena to coordinate shipments, order colocation, verify fiber characteristics, develop the management network, and define the operational tools for the new network build. While that's just a portion of the overall work ahead of us, I'll spend some time over the coming weeks diving more deeply into those discussions and the sorts of efforts involved.
On an unrelated note, next week is our annual Spring Members Meeting in Arlington, VA. If you're a conference attendee, feel free to say "hi" and ask questions in the hallway. I'll have some news over the weekend on one of our demonstration efforts related to the new build.
Is there any plan to add more providers to the network such as in Asia?
