Telepresence Interoperability Webinar Scheduled for April 7th

Bringing together immersive telepresence units from different vendors is exciting! But, it can be complicated. Different signaling protocols and media codecs have prevented interoperability in the past. Internet2's new Cisco TelePresence interoperability services aim to resolve these differences with a cloud-based offering that enables our members to jump in without a heavy capital and staffing investments. We're excited to talk about these services, how we're hoping they can help our members, and how your institution can participate in the Early Adopter pricing, on the upcoming Telepresence Interoperability Webinar on April 7th at 3pm EDT.

But, the technical layer is only the first piece. Gaining interoperability for immersive systems opens up a whole bunch of new possibilities and potential collaborators, including other immersive multiscreen systems, but also existing less-immersive videoconferencing systems, and even desktop and mobile clients. This is great, but as soon as you break out of the tightly controlled immersive rooms you run the risk of bursting the immersion bubble and losing the illusion of presence. As such, there are a number of factors that are important to consider when combining immersion and interoperability. I'm looking forward to talking about this on the webinar as well.
