Internet2’s Community Anchor Program Profiles How Educators are Using Their Classroom Connections to Transform Learning
From a librarian using virtual reality to a third-grade teacher connecting her classroom with students from Wales and Ghana, educators everywhere are taking advantage of their internet connection to encourage learning in ways never before thought possible. The Internet2 Community Anchor Program (CAP) set out to tell their stories in its new Educator Profiles series.
CAP works with nonprofit research and education (R&E) networks around the country to connect K-12 schools and libraries to high speed internet, and is committed to communicating impactful stories of learning and transformation.
"We were thrilled to be able to reach out to teachers, IT directors, and librarians to get their stories of how they are using advanced networking to transform learning for their students," says Stephanie Stenberg, CAP’s director. "Sometimes we hear that, once schools or libraries connect to their R&E network, they are unsure of how to harness the power of their new, high-speed internet connection. We’re hoping that networks, schools, and libraries can use these profiles as inspiration." The educator profiles, which can be read in full here, include the following stories:
Wendy Blankley, a third-grade teacher, sparks critical thinking skills and global connectivity in her classroom with videoconferencing technology.
Sara Freeman, a technology and innovation teacher, aims to prepare tomorrow’s leaders and innovators by using technology to break down borders and bring abstract ideas to life.
Sara Jones, a Director of County Library Services, integrates virtual reality programming to expand STEM and STEAM services and engagement for students.
Laura Moore, a high school music teacher, helps open her students’ world by connecting them to a world-class music education and hands-on performance learning experiences in real time.
Meredith Nickerson, an elementary media specialist, creates inclusive and engaging learning opportunities with powerful virtual reality tools.
