Security Scene: April Update
I'M TYPING THIS IN BIG LETTERS SO YOU CAN READ IT FROM SIX FEET AWAY.
Phew, you guys! It's been quite the month. Emergency VPN capacity and software updates, am I right? Our peering team has been going nonstop to get capacity augments at major peering points. If you want to check on our major peers, check out the COVID-19 Peer Monitoring Public data.
Remember, the Bad People regard this as a great time to try to break into your networks, because we may be less vigilant due to our circumstances. Keep an eye on your monitors and read your logs!
Since you’re likely keeping up with all things Zoom, you may want to join members of the Zoom team on Tuesday, April 14 at 1:30 p.m. EST. They’re providing a brief update on what Zoom is doing to address some of the security and privacy concerns.
Zoom speakers include:
- Ben Grande, Head of Sales for local and state agencies and EDU
- Shawn Rolin, Head of Technology and Sales Engineering
- Lynn Haaland, Head of Global Risk and Compliance
To join, please register for call-in information.
Security Team Updates
The Internet2 security team has added two new members, James Harr (from the University of Nebraska) and Ryan Harden (from the University of Chicago). They've both been in the community for a fairly long time, so you may have seen them around!
Your FYI link of the month is that the University of Cincinnati has made class lectures for their Malware Analysis course available.
