NET+ Quarterly Update - Fall 2019
Internet2 NET+ cloud services are a research and education (R&E) community-driven program focused on providing secure, easily deployed and integrated commercial cloud applications meeting the key needs of higher education’s diverse users.
The NET+ Cloud Services team is pleased to share a few updates on various cloud services as well as activities at events over the last few months. If you have any questions related to these updates, or want to sign up for a service or participate in an activity, please email email@example.com.
NET+ Program Updates
Essential to running a community-driven program is gathering feedback on current plans and future initiatives from various stakeholders. The NET+ program has long engaged with our program advisory group, a group of C-level IT leaders in the community, for such feedback. The NET+ program, however, touches on many different constituencies across the academy and we’ve been looking for ways to better engage those program stakeholders.
To that end, we’ve launched two new groups, the NET+ Business, Procurement and Legal Advisory Committee (BPLAC) and the NET+ Cloud Services Technology Architecture Advisory Committee (CSTAAC). BPLAC will provide advice and support for contract lifecycle and vendor management and CSTAAC is a is a standing architecture strategy group.
NET+ Service Updates
NET+ AWS Updates: AWS Organizations now Generally Available, Control Tower in Alpha
Nearly 20 campuses have deployed AWS Organizations through the NET+ AWS program, delegating administration of account creation to campus cloud administrators. Separately, the AWS Control Tower campus team has successfully deployed three campuses with Control Tower enabled. Control Tower requires setting up a completely new organization and does not currently support merging multiple organizations, but provides more tooling to provide self-service account provisioning. Control Tower functionality is still very much in development, and much of the functionality can be provided with the somewhat more mature AWS Landing Zone feature. So if you have existing AWS accounts, it is advisable to review your account deployment and management options before choosing a definitive path forward.
Service Town Halls Expanded
As part of an overall effort to expand community engagement around NET+ cloud services, two NET+ cloud services recently launched town halls to expand opportunities for community sharing and alignment. These include a quarterly town hall series for NET+ Code42, and monthly for NET+ Splunk and the NET+ Duo Security program.
NET+ DocuSign Contract Update
During this past year, the members of the NET+ DocuSign Advisory Board, working closely with Internet2, have been heavily engaged to both renegotiate pricing and contract terms with DocuSign, and a reseller Carahsoft, to continue the NET+ Docusign program. A new agreement with DocuSign and Carahsoft will go into place on of after November 15, 2019. Details can be found on this frequently asked questions webpage and a blog will soon be published with more details.
NET+ Canvas Surpasses 100 Subscribers, Reaches Next Discount Level
The Internet2 NET+ Canvas program has reached the 100-subscriber milestone. Previously, subscribers were able to take advantage of lower pricing on Tier 1 Support. Now, subscribers will also be able to take advantage of an increase in per FTE storage.
NET+ GCP Kicks Off an Early Adopters Group - Onboarding Offers Available
As the NET+ GCP program now has more than a dozen subscribers, an Early Adopters Group has been created to collect service feedback as adoption increases. This group is informally composed of all service leads from subscribing institutions. There are several exclusive early adopters offers available for institutions who sign the agreement before the end of the year.
