Engagement with industry is critical to the success of Internet2’s mission to advance research and education through cyberinfrastructure and community collaboration. Since its inception, Internet2 has facilitated an industry membership program to enable collaboration between industry, higher education, and the broader research and education community. Today, we are pleased to announce the next phase of investment in this program with the hiring of Ben Fineman to lead the program as Sr. Program Manager, Industry Engagement.

Many members of the research and education community may already know Ben. For those who do not, Ben is an Internet2 veteran of more than 15 years, and has served in many important roles throughout the organization, most recently as Program Manager for NET+ Cloud Collaboration Services.

In the NET+ program, Ben successfully worked with the Internet2 community and industry service providers to build services that maximized value for both university and industry participants, and we look forward to having him bring that experience to bare in not only continuing but expanding these important industry engagements. Ben also brings both a technical and business background to the role, with a bachelor's degree in computer science and a Master of Business Administration.

Ben will be working hard over the next several months to seek out community feedback and build upon the excellent groundwork laid by the Task Force for Industry Engagement (TFIE) to examine and refine the Internet2 industry membership model. Industry engagement is a key part of the research and education wide ecosystem, and it’s important to ensure that both industry and higher education membership are receiving the utmost value out of these relationships. So, stay tuned for future opportunities and developments!

We at Internet2 would also like to thank and recognize Ann O’Beay who has done an excellent job leading Internet2’s Community Engagement efforts with industry over the past 5 years. Ann will continue as a part-time consultant to Internet2 supporting industry on a project basis, so those of you who have worked closely with Ann will be pleased to know we still have her available as a resource.

Ben is excited to get started, so feel free to reach out to him at for any industry engagement issues or opportunities, or just to officially welcome him to this new role!
