NET+ Cloud Services Update - Mid-Year 2019 Update
Internet2 continues to develop and refine an integrated cloud strategy leveraging existing cyberinfrastructure and adding new capabilities enabled by the cloud.
It’s been an exciting start to the year supporting members’ cloud journeys with key announcements like:the availability of a NET+ Google Cloud Platform program, and the general availability release of Internet2’s Cloud Connect Service. Many of these integrated cloud capabilities were detailed as part of a presentation at the 2019 Internet2 Global Summit, and were the subject of a recent workshop at UNC.
In the first half of 2019, the NET+ team has managed the service lifecycle of the community cloud services portfolio, while also ensuring an increased focus on building communities and encouraging collaboration amongst community members. Key updates in these two areas include:
AWS Organizations in Beta under the NET+ program — Internet2, in coordination with DLT Solutions, is working with 15 campuses to deploy AWS Organizations. Eleven member institutions have successfully migrated, through several rounds, and Internet2 and DLT expect to broadly open access to AWS Organizations in the coming weeks. Learn more about this and other recent NET+ AWS updates.
Code42 — Earlier this year an updated NET+ Code42 agreement was completed. The new agreement maintains current pricing and adds additional products and services as Code42 evolves its data loss prevention software. Existing subscribers are encouraged to move to the new agreement and we encourage institutions not subscribing to review program benefits. You may learn more by reviewing this information sheet.
DocuSign Re-negotiation — Internet2, members of the service advisory board, and DocuSign are working on renegotiating the NET+ DocuSign program. This update will include a required contract change and new pricing. While details are still in process, initial details can be found in this frequently asked questions document.
Dropbox — An updated NET+ Dropbox agreement was recently completed. The new agreement lowers pricing and adds student users with enhanced contractual protections. Existing subscribers are encouraged to move to new new agreement and we encourage institutions not subscribing to review program benefits. You may learn more by reviewing this information sheet.
Google Cloud Platform is Now Available — The NET+ Google Cloud Platform offering is now available! This offering, which requires no committed spend to receive a negotiated discount and contract terms, includes many unique benefits for the research and education community. Learn more about how to take advantage of these benefits today.
LastPass — NET+ LastPass program subscriptions grew significantly in 2018, with continued growth in 2019. Internet2 and LastPass/LogMeIn have been discussing updating the NET+ LastPass program based on campus requests (around security, etc) and business changes at LogMeIn after their acquisition of LastPass. A NET+ LastPass service advisory board will be formed in 2019. If your campus is interested in joining this effort, please contact us.
Panopto Now Available — The NET+ Panopto service has completed service validation and has become the first video platform provider for education to join the NET+ program! Panopto’s engagement with the higher education community is going strong, and the new NET+ Panopto Advisory board is looking forward to a kickoff meeting next month in conjunction with the Panopto User Conference in Seattle.
