Internet2 Packet and Service Orchestration Platform RFI Released
Internet2 continues to make progress on the Next Generation Infrastructure (NGI) project. On March 15, 2019, Internet2 released a request for information (RFI) for a Packet and Service Orchestration Platform that was developed in consultation with a new community Packet advisory team.
In the RFI, Internet2 sought technology direction and vision from potential partners about the approach they would use to build a world-class research network. RFI responses are intended to inform the design process for NGI Packet and Orchestration ahead of final design. RFI responses are due in mid-April 2019.
A community workshop is also being planned for mid-summer 2019 to discuss ecosystem-wide strategies for the layer 2/3 design. We expect to release an request for proposals (RFP) late in the summer for packet equipment.
