InCommon will have a full slate of community learning and support opportunities in 2019, including a new workshop/training opportunity for those new to identity management and/or InCommon, and new online training options.

Get the Basics at InCommon BaseCAMP

BaseCAMP will focus on identity management and InCommon basics. The event (August 13-15, 2019, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) will have a training and workshop atmosphere for those new to the InCommon Federation or identity management in general. The meeting will focus on these areas:

  • Introduction to identity management and identity architecture Operations of identity management and federation
  • Operating  in the Federation and making your system collaboration-ready to enable scholarly and research applications
  • Case studies and hands-on training on the InCommon Trusted Access Platform software and services, including:
    • Secure web single sign-on
    • Enterprise-level and virtual-organization group and access management
    • Packaged Shibboleth, midPoint, COmanage and Grouper

We’re building the program, and anticipate registration opening in mid-March, so mark your calendar and save the dates.

TechEx Includes CAMP, Advance CAMP

The annual Internet2 Technology Exchange (TechEx) will continue to focus on CAMP and the unconference AdvanceCAMP (ACAMP). CAMP offers case studies and more advance implementation and integration ideas and techniques. ACAMP is the gathering of federation and identity experts from around the world to explore new features and capabilities for federations and related software development. The 2019 TechEx is December 9-12 in New Orleans.

Software Training

InCommon has offered stand-alone training on the Shibboleth software (identity provider and service provider) for the past 10 years. Shibboleth Installation Workshops will continue in 2019; the current plan is to offer two in-person trainings.

InCommon also plans to invest in a learning management system and develop online training for the InCommon Federation and the InCommon Trusted Access Platform software. The first of two opportunities is an online version of the Shibboleth Installation Workshop and an “InCommon 101” session is also under development for those new to the Federation or federated identity management (or those who want a refresher). Training on Grouper, midPoint, and COmanage will follow. The first sessions are targeted for completion by mid-summer 2019.

To keep up on information about these workshops and training opportunities, make sure you are subscribed to the InCommon Participants email list (send mail to sympa@incommon.org with the subject: subscribe participants).
