Router Slicing Working Group Report Delivered

Nov 02, 2018, by Mark Brochu
Tags: Advanced Networking

Image of the 2018 Internet2 Technology Exchange logo At TechEX, a multi-organization working group presented its results on the community's exploration of Juniper node-slicing. These efforts indicated that the technology should be further explored to facilitate infrastructure sharing, particularly in cases where multiple, legacy Juniper chassis units are collocated. While the group discovered that various edge interface features were not supported, and a shared security model will need to be established, the fundamental technology is clearly sound and presents an intriguing opportunity for community collaboration in the future. Long-term ROI due to decreased colocation costs is also expected to be substantive in select cases. The Internet2 community will be working together in 2019 to move this technology into a full-scale, on-net production testbed.
