Internet2’s NET+ program has been an innovative, leading service that is highly valued by many Internet2 higher education members as well as many non-member institutions. It is focused on creating positive impacts for higher education in cloud services. The cloud services marketplace has evolved dramatically since both it and the NET+ program came into being over seven years ago. Internet2 is committed to managing the NET+ program to deliver continuing value, and to effectively evolve the program to meet the ever-changing market and needs of higher education.
Today, NET+ will be added to the executive responsibility portfolio of Kevin Morooney, VP for Trust and Identity. This change will enable the NET+ team to work very closely with other highly-related services, and will facilitate the continuing development of synergies between the industry experience, relationships and expertise of the NET+ team and Internet2's other services. Additionally, many of the NET+ service management capabilities have been provided by cross-service teams reporting to Kevin.  Sean O’Brien, lead program manager for the NET+ team, will report to Kevin and will continue to lead the program management team, its operations and work with service providers to manage the quality of the service portfolio and to develop current and future opportunities. Internet2 is also strongly committed to enhancing and supporting strategic relationships across our service verticals for the benefit of our members.
Dave Gift, AVP for Community Engagement, has been serving in a transitional capacity as the executive sponsor for NET+ since late in 2017. He’ll return to his regular full-time role at Internet2 with this change. Dave notes, “My time leading NET+ has brought me to a deep and appreciative understanding of the value of this program to higher education, the tremendous skills of our NET+ team, and the insightful guidance provided by our NET+ Program Advisory Group. This next change will build on those strengths and provide a proper context for assuring that we not only identify the best opportunities to serve our members, but also the best ways to do that, in a very dynamic technological environment.”
I would like to thank Dave for his tremendous leadership in helping guide and support the NET+ program. With this new leadership structure, I am confident that Internet2, with ongoing support and engagement from the community, will continue to curate and manage a cloud portfolio that provides sustaining and high value for the benefit to the community.
Kevin is looking forward to working closely with our community on the NET+ program and he welcomes your questions and comments. He can be reached at
