September 7, 2017 Update

Internet2 is actively preparing for the potential impacts of Hurricane Irma and its expected landfall in Puerto Rico and potentially Florida, the Gulf and/or East Coast. We will be monitoring the progress of the storm as it develops and until the danger of additional damaging effects has dissipated.

The map below demonstrates where peak rainfall potentially overlays with Internet2 and its members infrastructure in the landfall zone.

We will exercise increased awareness when deploying changes to the network for the duration of the storm. An internal Network Operations Center (NOC) ticket has been opened (15599:144) to track all storm related activities and to provide a tie-back for member tickets opened as a result of the potential storm impacts.

Internet2 has implemented its enhanced communications protocol where senior leadership is included on regular communications and updates related to storm events affecting the network. We have proactively contacted our vendor partners to ensure that they are prepared for any restoration activity that might be required as soon as it is safe to do so.

We have created a major incident list to facilitate cohesive internal communications among the principals and senior leadership regarding storm related activities. The emergency network support policy is available, where Internet2 will do what it can with available resources to support member emergency declarations, including provisioning temporary new service, as available, without further agreement or fee.

This is a major force majeure event so we encourage all of our members and partners to please take all appropriate precautions and make any necessary preparations. As the weather can be unpredictable, we will continue to monitor the situation closely to determine what impacts may arise to our campus members and regional network partners in the storm path.

Our thoughts are with all the people that may be affected by Hurricane Irma.
