Connector/Network Member Principals to meet in Newport, RI
On August 1, 2017, the Connector/Network Member Principals will meet in Newport, RI to continue discussion on the future of the ecosystem. Beginning early in 2017, when the Connector/Network Member Principals met in Tempe, AZ, conversation centered on some specific challenges to the ecosystem shared by the Regionals and Internet2. The Principals first defined the ecosystem to include campuses, Regionals, affiliate and industry members as well as international NRENs and vendors and then proceeded to discuss six topics presenting challenges to the ecosystem including network security, business models including infrastructure sharing, support for research, innovation, the role of the Community Anchor Institutions (CAIs).
At the Global Summit, the Principals continued their discussion of the ecosystem, this time focused on factors influencing the future of the ecosystem including the changing landscape of programmable infrastructure, business model considerations, increased use of cloud services on campuses, large amounts of data being generated that needs to be stored and moved, increased need for more network capacity and other factors. In Newport, the future of the ecosystem discussion will continue with a focus on business models and workforce development for the next generation. In January of 2018, the Principals and Internet2 staff will meet once again and continue the discussion of the future of the ecosystem, working together on solutions to the challenges.
