March NAOPpag Update
DDoS Mitigation Service Pilot, IU GlobalNOC Agreement
Wendy Huntoon, NAOPpag co-chair and President/CEO of KINBER, chaired the March Network Architecture, Operations and Policy Program Advisory Group (NAOPpag) meeting. John Moore led a discussion on a few key efforts related to supporting research (support for big data, support for network experimentation, campus-focused research facilitation), and sought feedback from the NAOPpag on how these efforts interrelate, and how they will impact the evolution of the Internet2 infrastructure.
In other business, the group heard a report on the DDoS Mitigation Service pilot as plans to roll out the pilot this spring progress. Rob mentioned that Internet2 and Indiana University GlobalNOC had executed the operations agreement. Following overarching principles derived from the OECST report, the team from Internet2 and GlobalNOC developed what they believe is a fully modernized agreement that includes better definition of services, measurable outcomes and appropriate success metrics. Finally, a report was provided on the work completed by the Fees Subgroup, a combined NAOPpag/Community Engagement PAG group formed to advise Internet2 as the new membership model is implemented in 2018. The group provided input on SEGP/U.S. UCAN cutoff, when to reset the base data—every 2-3 years--used to create the sustaining contribution (combination of membership dues and network participation) and the unbundling of InCommon participation fees from Network Participation fees for Level 1 higher education members. NAOPpag members on the Fees Subgroup include Dee Childs, James Deaton and Jim Stewart.
The NAOPpag will hold an open meeting at the Internet2 2017 Global Summit on Tuesday, April 25, 7:30-8:30 a.m. (location pending—please check program at https://meetings.internet2.edu/2017-global-summit/program/#04-25). All interested community members are invited to the session.
