Global Engagement Highlights of 2016
2016 marked another great year of global engagement for the Internet2 community. In the spring, our Global Summit in Chicago gathered Internet2 community members to meet and collaborate with over 150 international colleagues. In October, many of our members and our Chinese colleagues (technologists and researchers) participated in the 17th edition of the Chinese-American Networking Symposium, warmly hosted by Rice University.
We also traveled internationally, representing Internet2 and its community in Buenos Aires at the TICAL2016 conference, re-signing a strategic MOU with our Chilean partner REUNA (this collaboration is particularly important to support the numerous US astronomy instruments in Chile), and gathering together a strong Internet2 community presence at TNC2016 in beautiful Prague, where NYU former president John Sexton delivered a fascinating keynote on the future of the global university and advancing global research and education.
To round off a busy year, network engineers from the University of Guam were able to participate in the Tech Exchange in Miami, fulfilling a vital link in advancing conversations about trans-Pacific connectivity. You can read all about their experience in their own words. It was an exciting year full of wonderful interactions with colleagues from around the world and we look forward to 2017!
