Planning for the Next Internet2 Network
The Network Services team is planning for the investment in the next Internet2 network platform, starting in 2018. A major aspect of the effort is to have an extensive conversation with the community to understand what they will require in the next 2–5 years, be it new services, a different spin on existing services, etc. The key goal is to make sure that the next set of investments we make for the community aligns well with their needs.
The outreach effort has to date been focused on working directly with our advisory groups (primarily the Network Architecture, Operations and Policy Program Advisory Group, NAOPpag) and with individual CIOs, regional network leaders and researchers. At the 2016 Technology Exchange, we will be releasing a Call for Papers (CFP) to solicit ideas directly from a broader cross-section of the community. Selected CFP respondents will be invited to a workshop in January 2017 to discuss those ideas, and help to create a draft plan that will form the basis of subsequent design, engineering and procurement efforts.
