NAOPpag Update, June-July
The Network Architecture Operations and Policy Program Advisory Group (NAOPpag) held a combined June/July meeting in late June. The group reviewed the closed and open NAOPpag meetings held during the Internet2 Global Summit. The remainder of the meeting was spent discussing how to organize the NAOPpag for the rest of 2016 and into 2017.
Rob Vietzke described the report provided by the Internet2 Board Program and Priorities Committee (PPC) during the Global Summit. The PPC works with Internet2 staff to identify priorities and programs for the next budgeting cycle, calendar year 2017. As the report from the PPC recommended that Internet2’s highest priorities be the Internet2 Network and Trust and Identity, for 2017, Internet2 staff will be working closely with the NAOP to ensure that the Internet2 Network is a focus and continues to meet the needs of the community in 2017 and beyond. Additional discussion will occur through the fall around the 2018–2023 Internet2 Network upgrade opportunity. As another part of organizing the NAOP and its new members, Wendy Huntoon, KINBER, and William Deigaard, Rice University, volunteered to shape agendas and chair meetings for the PAG meetings for the next six months.
Finally, an update on the 2016 Internet2 Network upgrade was provided. Equipment upgrades will continue through the fall. The move to MPLS and activation of the new SDN overlay will occur later in 2016 or early in 2017.
