John S. Morabito is the Vice President for External Relations and General Counsel of Internet2. In this role, he is responsible for leading Internet2’s federal and state government relations program, domestic and international policy development, legal representation, and the U.S. UCAN program, which is designed to provide advanced networking services and applications to community anchor institutions throughout the United States. He is also responsible for maintaining Internet2 as a leader, trusted authority, and resource in the area of advanced Internet development and services.
Mr. Morabito has more than 20 years of experience in communications and information technology. Prior to joining Internet2, Mr. Morabito served as the Deputy Associate Administrator in the Office of Policy Analysis and Development within the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) of the Department of Commerce. As a career member of the Senior Executive Service, he helped the Administration develop domestic public policies on telecommunications and information matters. Mr. Morabito joined NTIA in May 2009 to serve as the Senior Policy Advisor for the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program.
Mr. Morabito also has served as Vice President of Government Affairs for Comcast Corporation, Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Qwest Communications, Vice President of Federal Affairs for Frontier Corporation, Committee Counsel for the United States House of Representatives Committee on Commerce, and Deputy Division Chief of several divisions in the Common Carrier Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission.
Mr. Morabito received a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law, an A.B. from Vassar College, and attended the London School of Economics as part of his undergraduate studies. He is a member of the New York, Maryland, District of Columbia, and Connecticut bars and admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court. He is also a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association, Association of Corporate Counsels, and National Association of College and University Attorneys.
