Network Performance Workshop

Purpose

This 1.5-day workshop provides attendees with a working knowledge of how to quickly identify and solve common host configuration and network performance problems. The workshop provides information on installing and using a variety of open-source performance tools, experience in interpreting the tool results, and introduction to methodologies for using a combination of tools to solve real-world problems. Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will be able to: (1) differentiate between host configuration and network infrastructure problems, (2) setup and operate the various servers, (3) assist end-users in using these tools to effectively report problems, and (4) understand how to use these tools for long-term monitoring activities.

The increasing reliance on network connectivity in all aspects of campus activities is resulting in increased pressure on support staff to quickly resolve network problems. Through participation in performance measurement networks, system administrators, network engineers, and end-users can now work together to resolve end-to-end performance problems. The measurement infrastructure is most effectively leveraged when all paths within the network and servers on the edge support on-demand testing beacons. This workshop brings together representatives from various campuses to maximize these networking efforts.
