Internet2 Services to Working Groups

Internet2 provides resources and services to facilitate the goals of WGs. The services listed in this document have been designed to meet the needs of a WG as facilitated through its WG chair. Additional needs or modifications to services should be discussed with Internet2 staff. Information about general services can be found at http://www.internet2.edu/html/wgsupport.html.

  • Web support:
    • Assist in getting content posted on web pages. WGs can maintain their own site on a server (Internet2 will provide access to header and footer files); a WG (or designated member) can obtain secure ftp access to the Internet2 server to maintain their own content; or Internet2 web support can maintain the WG site in-house. A sample WG web page is available here.
    • Create and maintain web server accounts (ftp, SSH) and directory permissions.
    • Set up ongoing list maintenance of group lists (currently Listproc). List Setup Chair sends requests to area name-service@internet2.edu. Various configuration choices are available. The chair will be asked to select options that suit the WGs needs. Chair must approve the addition of requesters with email addresses from all other domains
  • Conference calls: Chair should send a request to area name-service@internet2.edu. Internet2 staff will arrange calls. Chairs should provide the following information in the email request:
    • Date of call
    • Time (include a time zone for reference)
    • Estimated number of participants (note if any will be international)
    • Estimated length of call
    • Frequency/schedule of recurring calls, if appropriate
    • Moderator name and phone number (generally the chair)
    • For emergency or after-hours service, contact lead or backup
  • Meeting notes:
    • Chair defines type of minutes (options are narrative or bullet points).
    • Draft list of Action Items is sent to the chair within two (2) business days following the phone call
    • Draft notes are sent to the chair within seven (7) business days following the phone call
    • Since the default is that Action Items and notes are sent first to the chair for review, chair forwards to committee members in a timely fashion and seeks approval in the next conference call
    • Approved minutes are posted to the WG web site
