Research Support Center

The Internet2 community, Internet2 Network and associated international, regional, campus and lab infrastructure and services are tremendous assets for researchers nationwide. Internet2 is an advantageous ally in supporting the research community and an important partner in accomplishing research goals. The Internet2 Research Support Center, in collaboration with its partners, provides comprehensive end-to-end support to the research community for the use of Internet2 Network infrastructure and related services.

Support services

The Internet2 Research Support Center will:

  • Work with research communities to understand their needs and requirements—then effectively integrate infrastructure and services into their applications and environments;
  • Provide network engineering, planning and pricing for project and proposal development;
  • Collaborate with the community to anticipate research needs as part of the Internet2 infrastructure and service development process;
  • Foster network infrastructure and service research that can be incubated, tested and deployed to better support scientific research in general.

R&E Network Research Liaison Program

Internet2 is creating an R&E Network Research Liaison program in order to foster new and expand existing relationships with the regional networks. The goal is to provide comprehensive end-to-end support for the national research community. The program will leverage ongoing regional research support activities, and will identify and fill gaps in research support.

Pilot phase participants from Internet2 Connectors and R&E Network Members will be working with Internet2's CTO office to develop the program. Activities during the pilot phase of the program will include:

  • Identify existing local and regional research support mechanisms
  • Select initial research communities for in-depth support
  • Identify existing Internet2 services and technologies of interest to the research community
  • Identify new technologies and services of interest to the research community
  • Develop coordination and collaboration mechanisms for research support

The pilot program begins in January, 2012, with the goal of announcing the full program during the Spring 2012 Internet2 Member Meeting. E-mail rs@internet2.edu for more information.
