Network Performance

With the transition to the new network, the Internet2 Observatory will be expanded to enable data collection at all network layers, making datasets available to network engineers and researchers. Within the Abilene Network, the Observatory provided network engineers and the network research community a unique view of network operation and performance. In the new network, the Observatory continues to serve network engineers by providing a view of the operational data associated with a large-scale network, and the research community by providing data associated with the fundamental properties of basic network protocols. The Internet2 Observatory being planned and deployed in conjunction with the new network will expand to provide performance measurement for operations and characterization of new network services, including collecting and disseminating data from dynamic circuit services, control plane setup information, circuit usage, and optical equipment performance.
