In 2006, Internet2 established a formal program to strengthen collaborations and partnerships with the regional and state networks. An Internet2 senior program manager was designated to oversee this program and serves as a single point of contact and advocates for state and regional network members and their interests within the Internet2 organization. Strategic objectives for the program include supporting state and regional networking organizations in their efforts to:
- Provision advanced networking services and related technologies to member campuses and research communities
- Support a successful and seamless transition of all existing and new connectors to the new Internet2 Network
- Strengthen relationships and expand interactions with The Quilt, the EDUCAUSE StateNets Working Group, and other regional consortia
- Identify programs and activities that complement and expand work already underway to develop and promote mutual value in service offerings
