features

The Internet2 NET+ CrashPlan PROe service utilizes the Internet2 Network infrastructure to give members high performance and endpoint backup benefits fine-tuned for the unique needs of higher education. Institutions using CrashPlan PROe enjoy significant productivity gains; it empowers a single admin to easily support the backup needs of thousands of users, while enabling faculty and staff to quickly and easily restore data on their own.

The ultimate in cross-platform performance and security

CrashPlan PROe's cross-platform support – including Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris (both client and server) – ensures no computer and no department is left unprotected. End-to-end security means data encrypted at the source remains encrypted throughout transit and storage. And PROe’s performance is unmatched due to innovative compression, load balancing, byte differential data de-duplication and multi-threading technologies.

Easy administration by IT, including directory services integration and single sign-on

Managing backup is easy thanks to PROe's intuitive, real-time dashboard of the entire backup environment. From a single PROe console, administrators enforce data retention policies, adjust user profiles, ensure compliance, and specify backup timing and security settings. PROe also eliminates painstaking backup archive migrations and time-consuming storage monitoring by automatically optimizing storage and bandwidth across all servers.

CrashPlan PROe supports enterprise named services and authentication needs as well. It integrates seamlessly with Open Directory, Active Directory or OpenLDAP using LDAP (and allows admins to specify multiple LDAP providers, too), Radius for dual-factor authentication, and Shibboleth/SAML 2.0 for federated, cross-domain single sign-on.

On-the-go access to files

CrashPlan PROe gives admins and users secure access to their backed up files, from any mobile device. They can:

  • Instantly access backed up files on the mobile device, even when offline
  • View files right within the app or open them in another compatible app
  • Share the files via email

The mobile app adheres to the same, advanced security standards as PROe, so mobile access always remains secure.

User-friendly backup, plus simple, user-initiated restores and recovery

CrashPlan PROe runs silently in the background, continuously protecting the critical business data stored on endpoints. There's no need for end users to change their work habits—PROe backs up data automatically, without any user effort or intervention required.

And when they need to, users restore files immediately, themselves—even when away from the office or while using their mobile device—without needing IT help. They also can easily search for specific files and recover archived files based on date, time or incremental version.

Flexible, comprehensive data retention for easier compliance management

Unlike some backup services that put restrictions around backup, PROe backup is truly unlimited, so your data retention policies are easily upheld. Back up any size or type of file and keep as many versions as you want, for as long as you want. Additional disaster recovery/regulatory compliance features:

  • Intuitive, real-time dashboard of the entire backup environment so administrators can enforce data retention policies, specify backup scheduling and adjust security settings
  • Granular controls assign backup responsibilities based upon admin's role
  • Push restore functionality to remotely copy a user's backup to another device for quick disclosure to a third party without the user's knowledge
  • Tamper-proof, self-healing archives to recover data and notify administrators of an incident
