Internet2 Neternship
Opportunities for students to work on network applications
Internet2's network based internship ("neternship") provides a small group of students the opportunity to interact with students and faculty from other campuses through a distributed programming project. During the course of the neternship, students will be introduced to collaborative tools that are currently in use across Internet2 and the commodity Internet. This is an opportunity for students to get hands on experience in advanced network programming fundamentals. The students will participate via independent study from their own campuses and join in a weekly "class" using the Internet2 Commons video conferencing infrastructure (H.323), AccessGrid, VRVS, and/or ConfXP. This project is a chance not only for students, but campuses to show that they are contributing to the advancement of networking as a whole. The tools and technologies created by the neterns will be publicized by Internet2, and their home campuses are encouraged to do so locally as well.
2005 Fall Neternship Call For Participation: Please Respond by 16 September 2005
The call for participation for the Internet2 Fall 2005 neternship
is now open. Potential projects for the upcoming semester include:
bulk file transfer helper application for video
distribution, Comet DVIP interface, and a
videoconference signaling infrastructure. While Internet2 is open to several project possibilities,
there are two that are of particular interest. One will
work with a very interesting community (still secret),
the other may involve students receiving free hardware
(relatively inexpensive, but fun).
To nominate a student or suggest a project idea, please contact Susan Evett , Internet2 Program Manager, by 16 September 2005.
