Spring 2010 Internet2 Member Meeting

The Internet2 community will gather for its annual Spring Member Meeting, April 26–28, 2010, in Arlington, Virginia. Registration and full program information is available online. Reduced registration fees and hotel block rates are available for those who register by March 26.

Internet2 Member Meetings bring the member community together for interactive discussions about new and ongoing work and provide a venue for members to make connections and form new collaborations. Additionally, the side meetings held in conjunction with the Member Meeting provide forums for Working Groups, SIGs and BoFs to meet face-to-face. The 2010 meeting program will include the following tracks: Cyberinfrastructure and Advanced Applications in Action; Federal Agency Perspectives; Middleware; Network Planning and Engineering; Security for Advanced Networks; Teaching and Learning/K20; and The Future: What's Next for the Net?

Please note, this year, International activities will be held Wednesday and Thursday, 28-29 April, rather than on Monday as they have been scheduled in the past. To view the full schedule of activities with international focus, please click here.

Advisory Council Election Results

The Internet2 Governance and Nominations Committee (GNC) is pleased to announce the results of the 2010 Advisory Councils election. On February 24, the GNC received the auditor's independent confirmation of the results, and on March 3, the Internet2 Board of Trustees unanimously ratified the election results. The GNC wishes to express it gratitude to all the candidates for their willingness to stand for election and their demonstrated commitment to the community. The newly elected council members will take office on April 26 at the Internet2 Spring Member Meeting and will serve a three-year term. View the complete list of new members online.

InCommon Affiliate Program

InCommon has launched a pilot Affiliate Program to to facilitate participants' connection with commercial or non-profit organizations that provide software, content, guidance, support, and implementation and integration services related to participating in the federation. Proceeds will provide funding for the federation’s ongoing programs, including outreach, collaboration activities, educational offerings, research and development, and technical operations. U.S. Forest Service Explores Internet2 use for Research and Educational Outreach

The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) is exploring how the Internet2 Network can enhance their existing educational outreach programs and research activities including tracking the movement and impact of dutch elm and emerald ash borer on native tree species. The Internet2 K20 Advisory Committee is planning to engage representatives from the USFS as part of the Internet2 K20 Initiative Business Meeting at the upcoming Spring Member Meeting. CAMP and Advance CAMP: Registration Now Open!

Registration has opened for CAMP (Campus Architecture and Middleware Planning) and Advance CAMP, both sponsored by InCommon, in cooperation with Internet2 and other organizations. CAMP, June 21-23, will focus on exploring and supporting federated identity management, while the Advance CAMP, June 23-25, features the second identity services summit. Both will take place in Raleigh, North Carolina. Register now!

Governance Updates

AMSAC

The Applications, Middleware, and Services Advisory Council (AMSAC) has been reviewing its relationship with relevant working groups, and how to best support them in their activities and ensure their alignment with goals and strategies enumerated in the strategic plan. In addition, AMSAC continues to monitor the progress of the InCommon federation, as well as the IDEA Awards process.

AOAC

The Architecture & Operations Advisory Council (AOAC) met on February 10 and February 24. During these calls, the AOAC reviewed the CPS/TR consolidation business plan including traffic analysis of the first few peerings that were established. After this review, the AOAC endorsed the CPS/TR consolidation plan which included providing a letter of endorsement letter to Internet2 and the other Council chairs. It was reported at the February 24 meeting that the AOAC endorsement had also been shared with the Board. The AOAC has also discussed the national R&E NTIA BTOP proposal. A technical team has been convened to review the technical aspects of the proposal that is being developed together by Internet2 and NLR. Finally, at the February 24 call, an update on the MX router upgrade was presented.

ERAC

The External Relations Advisory Council (ERAC) met on February 15 and March 1. Topics discussed included reports from the Quilt/StateNets meeting and the Internet2 Board of Trustees meeting, discussion of the Internet2/NLR joint NTIA BTOP proposal, CPS/Transit Rail, and business outreach. In addition status reports were given relating to the search for a new CEO and for the International Program position.
