The Arts and Humanities Initiative assists Internet2 members with the convergence of high-performance networking technologies and applications in the arts and humanities. In 2007, Internet2 and the New World Symphony hosted their annual hands-on audio/video production workshop, emphasizing real-time experience connecting with remote sites over Internet2 advanced networks. In February, a summit on digital humanities was hosted over Internet2, bringing together colleagues at venues in Egypt, Sweden, England, France, and the Netherlands, along with 10 Internet2 member organizations in the US. The Open Student Television Network (OSTN) and Internet2 partnered to present an International Student Film Festival, using the Internet2 Network to globally netcast original student film and video and providing an interactive videoconference linking student directors with press and audience for a live Q&A session. Internet2 members in New York City hosted “Manhattan Connects: An Internet2 Conference for New York's Cultural Institutions” showcasing the versatility and importance of Internet2 advanced networks within New York's cultural and arts community, including a jazz master class and chamber music coaching with a demonstration of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, and a case study from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
