Forum for US Campuses Overseas
8 October, 2009

There are a growing number of US institutions with programs or campuses located overseas. Increasingly, many of them are moving beyond establishing partnerships with existing universities to establishing independent sites to support one or more academic programs. What issues should be taken into account when selecting a site overseas? How can your membership in Internet2 and the relationships Internet2 has built with its counterpart organizations around the world be leveraged to assist with connectivity-related challenges? This forum will discuss these issues as well as exploring challenges that have been overcome by overseas programs that are already established.

Who should attend? Any community member who has a program or campus overseas, is planning one, or is part of a Research & Education Network that might provide connectivity to such a program.

Why is Internet2 convening this forum? For some time Internet2 has fielded inquiries from members with overseas programs or collaborations. Our partnerships with NRENs around the world mean we have contacts who are able to provide details on how to access local resources. We are happy to facilitate an introduction in your chosen locale.

More recently, we have been approached by a group of universities hoping to collaborate to provide infrastructure to their overseas campuses. They realize they have each been expending resources to support identical program development processes. Ideally, they would like Internet2 to help with on-the-ground support so they do not each have to 'reinvent the wheel'.

This forum will provide an opportunity to discuss both connectivity and other services that might be required for a foreign campus. Topics as varied as networking needs & requirements, disaster recovery & continuity, security, filtering, and relationship management will be included. We hope you'll join the conversation!
