Submission Instructions

As the IDEA Awards are primarily subjective, versus the purely quantitative nature of the Internet2 Land Speed Record, it is important that the judges hear from the application users. Reference users can submit testimonials, one page or less, either as part of your nomination form or by email to <idea-awards@internet2.edu> referencing the name of your application in the subject line (i.e., “IDEA testimonial for Application_Name”).

Within the description and impact statements, please include references (to URLs and publications) that can assist the judges in getting an understanding of the application and the effect it has had on research and education. The pointers could be to the application itself, screen shots, video clips, or any other informational resource. Within the application description, please detail the problem this application solves (noting, for example, whether it addresses a fundamental research challenge or has a more applied orientation), what you believe may be new or unique about the application, and whether you have a model for sustaining the development and support of the application.

For impact of application, take into consideration:

  • The magnitude of the positive and strategic impact of the application for its current users. Has it had a transformational effect? Can you provide any quantitative assessment data?
  • The technical merit of the application. Does it make innovative use of advanced networks and advanced services (e.g., high bandwidth, low latency, IP multicast, IPv6, dedicated optical wavelengths)?
  • Breadth of impact, as indicated by current user base and likelihood of broader adoption by its full natural community of potential users. Has there been demonstrated growth of the user community? Is it being used by more than one discipline?
