Internet2 Health Network Initiative

Providing connectivity to health networks across the country under the Health Network Initiative is a natural extension of Internet2's existing network capabilities and complements its members' ongoing work in the health sciences arena. The Internet2 Network links high-speed state and regional research and education networks to connect close to 50,000 research and education institutions and extends robust capabilities that are uniquely suited for healthcare and health applications.

FCC Rural Healthcare Pilot Program

The FCC has announced the award recipients for its FCC Rural Healthcare pilot program, an enhanced funding initiative intended to help public and non-profit health care providers construct state- and region-wide broadband networks to provide telehealth and telemedicine services throughout the nation. The program will fund up to 85% of the costs of constructing those networks, as well as the costs of advanced telecommunications and information services that will ride over these networks. If selected, up to 85% of the cost of connecting to Internet2, a dedicated nationwide backbone, may also be funded by the pilot program. Information for Award Recipients

The RHCPP awards provide funding to help forward-thinking public and non-profit health care providers establish state and regional broadband networks dedicated to health care services, as well as enable these networks to connect to nationwide advanced research and education networks like Internet2. The Internet2 Health Network Initiative aims to work in cooperation with Connectors to ensure support RHCPP participants. A dedicated web site provides additional information and resources for RCHPP participants.
