Scope
Statement
The scope of Internet2 Health Sciences Cardiology Special
Interest Group (SIG) is to promote the adoption of advanced
Internet technology and applications by the Cardiology profession
to include remote real time device control, monitoring and
supervision, fusion imaging (overlaying multi-modalities imaging
in 3D space), simulation and modeling of catheterization and
surgical procedures for the heart in order to advance science
and health care.
Deliverables
1. Demonstrate Supervised Cardiac MRI to incorporate
remote operation and image interpretation for outcomes research.
2. Demonstrate realistic, dynamic 3-dimensional modeling of
the heart.
3. Demonstrate remote instruction in complex cardiac procedures
(including robotic assistance) using trans-catheter methods,
limited access and full thoracotomy surgery for educational
and best practice purposes.
4. Establish an industry panel to include manufacturers of
cardiac-related imaging, treatment and pharmacological products.
5. Establish linkages with the following professional associations:
American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology,
American Society of Echocardiography, and Society for Cardiac
Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
6. Establish a multi-disciplinary core cardiovascular group
to meet with Health Science Advisory Group and other Internet2
subgroups at the Fall 2003 Internet2 Member Meeting.
7. Create a Cardiology Working Group (2004).
