February NAOPpag Meeting Highlights, Network Working Groups Established
William Deigaard (Rice University) chaired the February Network Architecture, Operations and Policy Program Advisory Group (NAOPpag) meeting. John Moore provided a report on the Research and Education Community Investment in National-footprint Network Services (RECINNS) Workshop held January 5-6, 2017 in Tempe. The 32 workshop attendees had responded to the call for papers that was issued during the Internet2 Fall 2016 Technology Exchange. The Workshop generated excellent discussion about future directions for the Internet2 infrastructure and the the creation of two working groups, one focused on Support for Data Intensive Science and Network Research and a second focused Support for the Academic Enterprise. Each of the groups will begin meeting in February with a goal to have these groups bring developing draft recommendations for discussion at 2017 Internet2 Global Summit. The PAG also discussed how to engage other sectors of the community for additional requirements and input.
In other business, the NAOPpag finalized guidelines for chair rotations, continuing with the co-chair structure and having one co-chair rotate off each year. The PAG also heard a report on the Connector/Network Principals' Meeting held in Tempe on January 4-5, 2017. Finally, a report was provided on the first meeting of the Fees Subgroup, a combined NAOPpag/Community Engagement PAG group formed to advise Internet2 as the new membership model is implemented in 2018. NAOPpag members on the Fees Subgroup include Dee Childs, James Deaton and Jim Stewart.
