Cultivating Communities: Dance in the Digital Age

Hummingbird
Hummingbird, presented by University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was one of the innovative works featured at the Internet2 Fall 2002 Performance Event.

On 29 October 2002, in conjunction with the Fall 2002 Internet2 Member Meeting, Internet2 presented a music and dance performance event highlighting the capabilities of Internet2-enabled collaborations and the talents of performers from our member institution campuses. Cultivating Communities: Dance in the Digital Age featured a showcase of regional dance and music around the country using low-latency interactive audio and video. Live performers on stage at the Bing Theater on the USC campus interacted with performers at remote locations in real-time before a live audience. To find out how the performance was put together, refer to the Technology that Made this Performance Possible. This performance event was also netcast live.

Presented with support from Sun Microsystems and Qwest Communications, the performance event relied on production direction from the Manhattan School of Music, leaders in videoconferencing with vast experience producing educational events over Internet2. Additional technical assistance was provided by Columbia University and other production personnel.
