Business Development Director

Internet2 provides the U.S. research and education community with a dynamic, innovative and cost-effective network, designed to provide next-generation production services as well as a platform for the development of new networking ideas and protocols. The Business Development Director will be responsible for developing relationships that focus on acquiring new users of large-scale networking services; maintaining and growing existing relationships; providing concrete market information about current and potential Internet2 products and services; providing regular progress and activity reports; managing revenue projections and budgeting allocated resources.

The Director will also be responsible for developing creative customer-focused solutions from the suite of Internet2 services; developing and submitting specific service proposals; identifying the financial characteristics of proposed agreements; working with existing and developing new Internet2 vendor and service provider partners to jointly pursue opportunities; responding inquiries; working with Internet2 Business Operations to ensure the integrity of any offers; working with Business Operations to resolve any questions regarding contracts; engaging with legal counsel to develop and review contracts; and developing and delivering presentations.

Requirements

The successful candidate will exhibit high standards of work, be able to recognize opportunities and develop strategies to pursue them bringing them to successful close, be able to adapt to organizational priorities, and work in a collegial and collaborative manner to enable others to be successful.

  • 5+ years working in the federal, corporate or health sciences networking space with broad set of current working contacts
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Prior experience
    • In successful contract negotiations
    • To produce financial analysis documents and to manage a budget
    • Working with networking technologies
    • Working with standard productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, Marketing software)
  • Significant skills in:
    • Written and verbal communications
    • Developing and presenting presentations to technical and non-technical audiences

Program Manager, Internet2 NET+ Services

Internet2, a non-profit organization, provides high-performance networking and related services to its research and education member institutions. As a key strategic focus, Internet2 is expanding its "above the network" services to include a wide variety of cloud-based offerings that will leverage the 100G Internet2 Network and capabilities such as InCommon federated identity management services. A new department is being formed to manage these, Internet2 NET+ Services. This team will work in conjunction with other Internet2 groups, members of the Internet2 community and third-party service providers to identify, design and deploy enhanced services that meet the growing needs of the Internet2 community.

Internet2 has a unique opportunity for a Program Manager to be an integral member of the Internet2 NET+ Services team. This full-time position reports to the Vice President for Internet2 NET+ Services and is ideally located in Silicon Valley (where many cloud vendors are located) or Washington, DC (where Internet2 has a major office and is ideally located near three airports). Travel up to 20% will be required to meet with vendors, members of the community, and to attend major Internet2 meetings and conferences.

Responsibilities

The Program Manager will have overall responsibility for one or more cloud service relationships from initiation through on-going operations and include:

  • Working closely with the Internet2 Vice President for Internet2 NET+ Services and other members of the Executive Team to establish the overall NET+ Services goals and objectives
  • Managing relations with cloud services vendors, including technical, legal, and business activities
  • Managing relations with Internet2 members using NET+ services and engaging the Internet2 community in on-going feedback programs and collaborative activities
  • Developing and executing plans through proof-of-concept and pilot stages for various programs in their initial start-up stages
  • Monitoring vendor activities and community responses
  • Developing plans for expanded services in conjunction with vendors and community members
  • Developing and maintaining revenue estimates and budgets for the programs assigned
  • Working with vendors to increase usage by members of the Internet2 community
  • Effectively and positively representing Internet2 and its members

Qualifications

  • Strong program and project management as well as collaborative leadership skills including negotiation techniques
  • A track record of individual initiative and a strong commitment to delivering services in a research and education environment, setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and working in a distributed environment with limited supervision
  • Understanding of:
    • Cloud services and cloud service providers
    • How cloud services can assist higher education entities and research communities achieve their goals
    • What is necessary to move from development to large-scale deployment of new services programs
  • Experience in:
    • Cloud services
    • Simplifying administrative processes
    • Promoting service adoption through outreach efforts
    • Working effectively with constituencies with differing points of view
    • Working effectively with ambiguity
    • Communicating effectively – written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal
    • Software and computing within a university environment
  • Bachelor's in IT and/or Master's degree (Business discipline/MBA preferred)
  • 10 years of experience in IT with at least five years in IT management

Regional Alliance Director

Internet2 is a not for profit corporation created by and dedicated to developing the next generation of networking technology for research initiatives of the top universities in the country and is an advanced networking consortium led by the U.S. research and education community with a history of innovation and collaboration.

The Regional Alliance Director will be part of the Network Services team focused on keeping Internet2 in the forefront of technological development in the networking space to meet the needs of advanced research and large-scale science. This position will drive the adoption of cutting edge network services among the Internet2 university members in partnership with the regional network organizations and state network organizations.

The Regional Alliance Director is responsible for Internet2's portfolio of network services and identifying how to partner with our regional network organizations to deliver the services to campuses, researchers, and science labs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Articulate strategy and implementation plan for new services, including the financial modeling for determining fees.
  • Lead the prelaunch or the strategy plan, providing oversight of marketing, communications and business development.
  • Develop an engagement plan with state and regional network organizations around the country, including the business model between Internet2 and regional communities for service delivery to universities and other members.
  • Evaluate and update partnerships with regional networks based on new services and programs from Internet2.
  • Develop marketing materials and information for network services to be consumed by researchers, regional network organizations and university CIOs. Clearly articulate value propositions and targeted users for each network service.
  • Lead business development efforts for network services among universities and researchers.
  • Articulate new features and services to engineering and operations for development. Drive the release of new features and services with speed to market as primary focus.
  • Develop a highly differentiated experience for new services.
  • Coordinate with Internet2 NET+ group (services above the network) for integration and planning of cloud services with network services. Develop model for regionals to utilize and distribute Internet2 NET+ services.
  • Coordinate activities among Internet2 executive staff with state and regional network organizations.
  • Develop regular reports for executive briefings and manage executive interactions with the leadership of the regional network organizations. The Regional Alliance Director's focus is to manage the partnerships with the regional network and state network entities within Internet2.

Qualifications/Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required, Master's Degree Preferred in a related discipline
  • 5-7 years experience working for or with regional network organizations and the research and education community preferred
  • Networking background and experience a plus as well as being technically adept
  • The ideal candidate must be passionate about Internet2's culture, mission and values of leading the development of the next generation of networking and the Internet.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Self-directed and able to articulate to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Entrepreneurial, team-first attitude is essential

Application Developer

The Internet2 Technical Services Group (TSG) is responsible for developing, deploying and operating information technology services in support of Internet2 staff, members, and the Research and Education community. These services include: help desk, desktop support, network administration, systems and applications design, implementation and administration, and real-time collaboration services such as audio and video conferencing, streaming, and desktop sharing.

TSG has an opening available for an Application Developer working within the internal Technical Services Group with a major emphasis on the development, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of both public-facing and internal web applications. Additional work will include web and database administration, architecture strategy and project management and will participate as an additional member of a highly functioning technical team.

This full-time position will report to the Director, Technical Services, and is located in the Ann Arbor, Michigan office. Minimal travel is required twice a year for one week duration each and two short-term additional travel periods.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development, deployment, and administration of web applications to support both public facing services and internal staff needs
  • Participate in the development of functional specifications and architecture documentation
  • Responsible for the production operation and security of web applications
  • Primary contact for the design, implementation, and ownership of diverse applications and features
  • Participate in the 24x7x365 support of web services
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, document work, and prioritize and complete projects by deadline with limited supervision
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. with or without assistance

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in a technology-oriented field, or an equivalent combination of post high school education and experience
  • Proven experience as an application developer with a portfolio of completed applications
