Chief Administrative and Systems Officer (CASO)
Internet2 is a member-owned advanced technology community founded by the nation's leading higher education institutions in 1996. Internet2 provides a collaborative environment for U.S. research and education organizations to solve common technology challenges, and to develop innovative solutions in support of their educational, research, clinical and community service missions. Internet2 is a national organization with primary offices in Washington, DC; Ann Arbor, MI; and Emeryville, CA.
Internet2 has entered into a period of substantial programmatic growth that has challenged existing administrative and information systems capabilities, making it essential that the organization mature and strengthen these capabilities. To lead that effort, Internet2 has begun the recruitment of a Chief Administrative and Systems Officer (CASO).
The position of Chief Administrative and Systems Officer (CASO) will have full responsibility for all cross-functional operations and determine the identification, adoption, and implementation of processes and systems that effectively support the organization. This full-time position reports directly to the President and CEO and is an integral and active member of the Internet2 Executive Team with the authority to implement processes and organize administrative and technical functions and staff, across divisions and locations, for the improved efficiency and effectiveness of the organization. The scope of responsibilities for this position includes, but is not limited to, the coordination and execution of the following functions:
Management
- Confer with Board members, organization executives, and staff members to discuss issues, coordinate activities, or resolve challenges.
- Recruit and hire department heads or managers and assign or delegate responsibilities as needed.
- Direct organization-wide human resources activities, including the approval of human resource plans or activities, the selection of directors or other high-level staff, as needed, or establishment or organization of major departments.
- Direct administrative and technical processes across divisions, optimizing automation and complementary activities.
- Manage technical selection and implementation of internal support services across the organization.
- Prepare budgets, in coordination with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), for approval, including those for funding or implementation of programs.
- Direct administrative departments, including purchasing, credit, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and technical support.
- Oversee Internet2’s office facilities including lease management, building operations, real estate acquisition, and space utilization.
- Work closely with the Internet2 President and CEO and division heads to assure that proper staff support is in place to support the work of the organization.
- Work closely with peer senior executives to implement corrective action plans to solve cross-organizational or departmental problems.
- Direct or conduct studies or research on issues affecting areas of responsibility.
- Comply with policies, rules, regulations, or laws essential to the functioning of the CASO.
- Develop strategies for all areas of responsibilities to support operations at a global scale in coordination with partner national research and education networks.
Administrative and Information Systems Leadership
- Oversee the core administrative and information systems functions in support of the programs and services offered across the ‘line’ divisions of Internet2.
- Analyze current administrative and systems capabilities and develop strategies to migrate to a continuous improvement model.
- Document areas of potential program improvement and/or policy changes and engage peer leadership in prioritization of proposed changes.
- Establish responsibilities and coordinate functions across administrative and information services departments and assure that these functions effectively enable the programs and services of the enterprise.
- Work closely with Internet2 division heads to understand the requirements of their programs and services for effective administrative and systems support.
- Work closely with the Internet2 CFO to develop a budget strategy to support necessary investments in administrative and systems capabilities.
- Coordinate the development of recordkeeping and document management systems, or other administrative control processes.
Required Qualifications
- Experienced administrative officer, preferably with university or academic center background, high tech and/or member organization.
- College degree required. Masters Degree in administration, communication, business, or other technology-related discipline preferred.
- 20+ years of substantial, progressive administrative/systems/process experience.
- 15+ years of management and supervisory experience in the areas of technical systems, programming and support of administrative systems, and process implementation.
- This position will be located in Washington, DC; Ann Arbor, MI; or Emeryville, CA; but will be required to oversee staff in all Internet2 offices.

eText Coordinator Summer Internship

Internship at Internet2
Internships at Internet2 will offer students invaluable resume building professional experience and networking opportunities. Interns will not only work closely with the Internet2 staff and gain experience in many aspects of business, but also have the opportunity to interact with our members and partners who play a key role in shaping the industrial landscape.

Responsibilities:

Global Program Manager: NET+ Cloud Services
Internet2 is an advanced networking consortium led by the US research and education community, with a history of innovation and collaboration. Internet2, as one of the leading US National Research and Education Networks (NREN), is closely collaborating with leading partner NRENs around the world on the strategic deployment of “above the network” (cloud) services. These cloud-based offerings are designed to leverage the advanced networking capabilities and federated identity solutions developed within the global NREN community. Modeled after the Internet2 NET+ program (http://internet2.edu/netplus/), a global portfolio of cloud services will be made available to all participating NRENs' constituencies worldwide allowing for simple access to services tailored for the research and education community on a global scale.
Internet2 and its worldwide consortium partners are seeking a full-time Global Program Manager, NET+ Services. A member of the Internet2 NET+ Services group, the Global Program Manager will work in conjunction with other groups within Internet2, global NREN partners, and third-party service providers to identify, design and deploy enhanced processes that support the adoption of Cloud Services within the global Research and Education (R&E) community.
Responsibilities
The Global Program Manager will have overall responsibility for coordination among NREN partners and the individual Cloud Service Program Managers. The responsibilities in this job entail facilitating the ease of adoption of global cloud services by participating NRENs and their constituencies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Working closely with the Senior Vice President for Internet2 NET+ Services and the Global Cloud Service Working Group and other members of the Steering committee to facilitate participation by global NRENs in the overall deployment of NET+ Services.
- Managing relationships with cloud services vendors in the global context by partnering with the cloud service program mangers to ensure global requirements are included in development. This includes technical, legal, and business activities.

The area: Internet2 Technical Services Group
Internet2 is the next generation backbone provider and advanced networking consortium for research and education in the United States. The Internet2 Technical Services Group runs the scalable and reliable systems to enable these operations. As a system administrator working on Internet2's critical production applications and infrastructure, your mission will be to ensure Internet2's internal and member-facing services are robust, reliable, and easy to use. Responsibilities will include the following:
- Provide leadership in the architecture, design, deployment, operation and security of Unix / Linux servers and applications
- Provide leadership in the adoption and production operation of server virtualization and storage area networking
- Provide leadership in the adoption and migration from local hosts to cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) where practical
- Participate in the deployment, operation, document and security of Windows servers and applications
- Participate in the deployment, operation, documentation and security of database servers and applications
- Participate in the 24x7x365 operation of all TSG services
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 4 years experience supporting Unix / Linux servers and application in a 24x7x365 production environment
- Experience operating and maintaining servers in remote, lights-out, colocation facilities
- Knowledge of Internet networking, tools, applications, protocols and standards
- Possess strong problem-solving, time management and prioritization skills
- Demonstrated track record in managing within a complex and dynamic organization, preferably in a higher education or federal agency environment
- Familiarity with higher education and/or not-for-profit member-driven organizations
- Ability to communicate to a broad and diverse community
