Review of Agenda

Comments on prior meeting notes

Minutes from 02/23/05 were approved for posting on web.

Updates from Internet2 (Cheryl/Laurie)

Board and Council nominations are on track. Board nominating committee will meet 3/31/05.  George Thoma and Parvati Dev will continue to serve on the ASC. There are additional ASC slots to be filled. Mark Ellisman's, Joel Tohlin's, Glenn Wheless' terms expire this year.

Updates from ASC Members

U of Hawaii and others received funding for an open source financial management system from Mellon Foundation (Ira Fuchs)

Update/Discussion of Ongoing ASC Agenda for Action

Campus Expectations Task Force (CETF)

This group will meet face-to-face next week. Bill is chairing this and Jacqueline is a member. There is strong interest from NPPAC, ASC, and Internet2 regarding this activity.

Increased Engagement with Research Community

Bill has indicated that he met with the CIC senior research officers last week. No details are available. The mid-west is a place to start. Bill continues to raise questions about what the senior research officers are hearing and what the needs of researchers are.  There may be similar opportunity to reach out to groups in other regions (AAU, CENIC were mentioned).

Real Time Communication

A side meeting has been scheduled at Member Meeting.  One of the outcomes will be a matrix of capabilities and cautions for the various tools and technologies.

TO DO: Invitations to participate (in RTC AG BoF) should be sent to all members of committee to attend this side meeting at SMM.

Lecture Object

Survey is ready to go out to specific lists. Goal is to have survey distributed by 3/25 or early the following week.  There will be a breakfast BOF at SMM on Wednesday, May 4 from 7:30 - 8:45 am.  Agenda will focus on sharing results of the survey and whether there is a need for a follow-on initiative.

Teaching & Learning

A working group has been formed and has scheduled a meeting during the Spring Member Meeting. Intent is to produce a charge for the working group at that meeting.

IDEA Awards

Annie Stunden and Ted Hanss have agreed to co-lead the judges panel. First set of awards set for Fall Member Meeting. The judges will meet at Spring Member Meeting to refine the criteria for the awards.

Application Dissemination - Getting Apps into "Production"

There are no specific actions for the ASC at this point in time. Parvati Dev's digital anatomy work continues. Vijay said getting applications into production must be more than just about providing information about applications, but also needs to help create the right environment and to support implementation. Laurie said that the CETF is addressing a piece of this. Vijay suggested a readiness document that talks about minimum campus requirements for the various applications is needed and the ASC could help shape that document. ASC will now wait for outcome of CETF.

Internet2 Opportunity Database

This is currently on hold. George Brett is reviewing various database options within Internet2. We will want to combine this database with the IDEA award applicants and capture those nominations plus the Internet2 showcase applications.

Other Items

We are planning to have the three Internet2 discipline program managers give short presentations on what is going on in their communities at out face to face meeting.

Jacqueline is struggling with the intersections of Application area and APAN and GGF. She just returned from GGF and heard about their view of advanced applications.  She feels we are too focused on Internet2 community. David would like to focus on how we work with these other communities that have a shared interest with us. An agenda item on this topic will be added to future ASC meetings.
