Planning Future Meetings
It was decided to continue to meet on the fourth Wednesday of the
month at 1 PM EST.
Outreach to Researchers
Bill Decker reported on his meetings with the senior research officers
from the CIC. His goal was to raise awareness among them about information
technology issues. Bill will expand this to a half day mini-conference to
explore these issues within the CIC. A similar activity is planned for NASULGC
and perhaps at the AAU meeting in the March timeframe. The suggestion was
made to have a panel at the Fall Internet 2 meeting. There are several other
groups discussing similar issues and it was suggested that we reach out to
them to see if coordination would be beneficial.
4. Draft Charge for Real Time Communication for Collaboration
The draft charge was distributed to the ASC. A question
was raised, that even though out of scope, should the charge mention
the fact that the material in real time collaboration may need
to be archived.
TO DO: ASC to review RTC and get comments and names to David
or Cheryl by 10/29. We need people with multiple perspectives
and skills since we're trying to pull together so many points
of view.
5. Draft Charge for Internet2 Expectations Task Force
This is a joint effort with NPPAC. The Draft charge
was discussed. A concern was raised about the very short
time frame and a suggestion was to phase the project and set a
target of the Spring Member Meeting.
TO DO: Send names of possible members of the Task Force to David.
6. Discussion of Other Strategic Actions to Advance Applications
The outreach portion of this was discussed earlier. The Lecture
Object Capture needs action. The ASC will discuss this at the next meeting.
A BOF was suggested for Spring 2005 Member Meeting to assess interest among
Internet2 members and Industry. The following discussion focused on the two
parts of the problem, the first being the capture of the object, the second
and more complex is defining the meta data so that you can find the lecture
object at a later time.
A summary of the Teaching and Learning BOF was sent to the ASC. The agenda
was planned to discuss how advanced network technologies could be used in
Teaching and Learning and how some applications can be re-purposed for educational
use. The meeting was attended by quite a few technologists who were there
to better understand the Teaching and Learning perspective. For a large number
of technologists, the Internet2 community is their community. This
group will continue as a BOF, SIG or Working Group.
TO DO: Read the Teaching and Learning BOF notes. Send
names of possible co-chairs to David.
Application Deployment – The discussion at the Fall meeting changed the
direction of this item to a focus on a very few projects. Once the projects
are identified we will find a way to get Internet2 and the member to work together
to get application into production. We are not actively looking for more examples.
Call concluded at 1:55 pm. Next call will be Wednesday, November 24 at 1:00
pm.
