Ensuring Network Performance
Ensuring network performance meets the needs of researchers and students increasingly requires international collaboration. In recognition of this trend, a measurement infrastructure team has been a key addition to the development of GÉANT2, the next generation of a high-performance pan-European network devoted to research and education. Internet2’s piPEs team has been working closely with the GÉANT2 team to ensure coordinated performance measurement frameworks, which are a cornerstone of understanding and resolving network performance problems.
The 30 European national research and education networks engaged in GÉANT2, and the Internet2 research and education community in the United States, share similar performance measurement framework architecture concerns, as well as security and local policy control issues. To address these issues in a coordinated fashion, the GÉANT2 and Internet2 performance teams worked closely together to develop a joint measurement architecture.
